Stages of Pyraustidae  Detailed information on immature stages of Pyraustidae is being
  acquired.  However, Gahan (1909)
discussed Dicymolomia julianalis Wlk. that preys on
  eggs of the bagworm, Thyridopteryx
  ephemeraeformis Haw. in
North America (Gahan 1909).  As much
as 30% of the bags were found infested, and a single larva consumed the
entire egg contents.  The cocoon is
spun at the free end of the bag.  Dicymolomia has the normal habit
of being a scavenger in the heads of cattail (Typha sp.).  Balduf
(1937) believed that this species was not primarily predaceous, but that the
eggs are destroyed incident to the preparation of a hibernaculum.     References:   Please refer to  <biology.ref.htm>, [Additional references may be found at:  MELVYL Library]   |
